Re-Entering Earth’s Atmosphere

Our Classroom 32 Comments »
I am really proud of the work you have done so far. Keep it up we are almost done!! :)
Step 3 – Re-entering Earth’s Atmosphere
Re-entry
Brace yourself, it is going to be a bumpy ride. Your crew and you will gather on the shuttle during the long flight home, and prepare a data collection report for mission control and the other scientists. Remember to include ALL of the important data you collected.
The format of your data collection report is as follows:
1. Title page must include the planet’s name, a picture of the planet, and each crew member’s name. (This should be the last one you complete.)
2. Paragraph one should introduce the planet. It should tell where is located in reference to the sun and list the characteristics of the planet.

3. Paragraph two should tell about the rotation revolution of the planet in comparison to the earth’s.

4. Paragraph 3 should tell about the planet atmosphere, gravity, temperatures, rings, any named satellites (moons), and how long it would take to get there from Earth.

5. Paragraph 4 should be a conclusion paragraph listing any other facts about the planet that the crew members found through their exploration.

Shuttle Crew

Each crew member is responsible for writing ONE STRONG paragraph. You then need to review and revise each others work. This means that after you have written your paragraph, EVERYONE in your group needs to read it and help correct it. Once you have all shared your paragraphs, you need to type them into one word document. Each person types in their own paragraph.

Earthrise

Your crew and you have a long flight back to the home planet, so work hard and work together to accomplish this vitally important part of the mission.

Even though I am not there today, I still hope to be able to answer any questions you have. Post them in the comments section and make sure to check them often for updates and changes. Good luck. Work hard, work smart and work together!!

So far so good. The patch designs are out of the way, and you are now ready to begin your search. Click on the Patches page to see the final designs.

Step 2 – During your exploration.

-Keep in close contact with your crew and mission control. (We wouldn’t want anyone to get abducted by space creatures.)
- Complete
Flight Data Collection Form

Each person of your crew is responsible for completing the Flight Data Form – it is always important in space travel and research to have back-ups of your back-ups. You never know what might happen. (Hint, Hint)

Remember to submit any questions to Mission Control through the comments section.

Exploring the Outer Planets

Science 42 Comments »

Y’all have done an excellent job with all of the projects that we have been completing in class. Are you ready to start the next one? I hope so because here we go.

Pioneers of the Future

Attention New Crew Member:

The Earth’s scientists have made a discovery. Instead of the Sun burning out, as we thought, it is getting hotter! They have released an emergency news bulletin stating that all of Earth’s inhabitants will need to be moved in the next ten years if there is any hope for our survival. They say that the safest places will be on the other side of the Asteroid Belt on an outer planet. You have been chosen to participate in a mission that could save the world. So, get ready to become an astronaut hero!

Sounds like a big job I hope you are up for the task. Keep reading to see what you are going to have to do to save the human race!

Your crew has been given two months to travel to the outer planets, and prepare a report for the scientists so they can determine which outer planet will be the next Earth. Your team of 29 researchers will break up into nine groups to go out and research the planets. Then, the individual groups will prepare a power point presentation and written report so that the scientists can make a decision. So to infinity and beyond, go find our new Earth!

That is quite a task, do you think you are up for it? I believe that you can do it. Keep reading to see what you are going to do.

Step 1- Pre-Flight Training

- Gather your crew.
- Choose an outer planet to explore. See Mr. Martin for sign-ups.
- Design your mission patch.- Use PowerPoint to design you patch.

Patch should include the following
1. Each crew member’s name
2. A picture of the planet you will be exploring
3. The name of your mission
4. Anything else that pertains to your mission

Click here to see examples of REAL Mission patches that have been used in the Space Program.

Your patch should be completed and submitted to mission control (Mr. Martin) for pre-mission approval.

A mission patch templete is avaliable by clicking on the Mission Design Patch Link below.

Mission Design Patch

If you have any questions about what you need to do for day 1 of your project. Write you question in the comments section and submit it to Mission Control. Make sure to include you name, so Mission Control can respond to you question.
It is important for your research team to work together to come up with the patch that fits your team the best. Each memeber should have some input in the design of the patch. ALWAYS remember that you are a TEAM!!
Good Luck and Happy Designing – The survival of the human race is in your hands now.
